Located on the Museum Mile section of 5th Ave. and nestled on the edge of Central Park in the exclusive Upper East Side, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a world famous and world class museum with exhibitions encompassing over 5,000 years of art. It attracts crowds of tourists, students, artists, locals, and art enthusiasts from all over the world year round. This neoclassical building is home to permanent collections in Byzantine, Egyptian, Ancient Near Eastern Art, armor and arms, works by European masters, etc. The highlight of the museum would have to be an ancient Egyptian temple brought to the city stone by stone and erected in the museum's conservatory.

The conservatory is accessed by entering through the majestic, marble floored and columned lobby. By navigating through the series of maze-like exhibit halls in the Egyptian collection, eventually one can find an exquisite glass-enclosed courtyard with the temple sitting in the center surrounded by serene pools encircling it in a quadrangular moat formation.

Like the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has membership plans that include private viewing of exhibits and banquets and cocktail parties for museum members and it is also available for private parties with arrangements being made by the special event staff.

Museum hours are 9:30 am to 9 pm Fridays and Saturdays and 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Sundays through Thursdays and closed Mondays. True to the philanthropic nature of its home city, the Metropolitan Museum has a "suggested" admission of $20.00, but they will accept what a visitor can afford so that all may have access to some of the most beautiful art in the world no matter their economic condition.

As this is such an expansive cultural site, there is no way a brief description can do it justice.
